Package tours and hotel occupancy rate for August 2026

MACAU, September 30 - Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the average occupancy rate of guest rooms of hotel establishments stood at 93.9% in August 2026, an uplift of 0.8 percentage points year-on-year. The rates for 4-star (94.4%) and 3-star hotels (91.1%) showed respective year-on-year growth of 5.4 percentage points and 1.2 percentage points, whereas the rate for 5-star hotels (95.1%) dropped by 0.5 percentage points.

Number of guests of hotel establishments went down by 2.6% year-on-year to 1,270,000 in August; those from the Chinese mainland (978,000) and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (136,000) decreased by 1.3% and 11.0% respectively. Meanwhile, international guests (86,000) dropped by 2.9% year-on-year; among them, those from the Republic of Korea (27,000) fell by 3.6%, while those from the USA (5,000) went up by 31.5%.

In August, number of inbound package tour visitors totalled 178,000, up by 14.4% year-on-year. Tour visitors from the Chinese mainland rose by 25.0% year-on-year to 164,000.

In the first eight months of 2026, the average occupancy rate of guest rooms of hotel establishments was 91.0%, up by 1.1 percentage points year-on-year. Number of guests decreased by 1.6% year-on-year to 9,640,000, of which international guests (838,000) rose by 10.4%. A total of 1,169,000 inbound package tour visitors were recorded in the first eight months, down by 8.2% year-on-year.
